On January 26, 2023, Brighton Beach was the place to be as the Rotary Club of Brighton hosted the 13th annual Kieser Great Australia Day Swim with 885 swimmers.

Swimmers of all ages and abilities participated in four different swim events, from the 2.5km open water swim to the 300m junior dash. The swimmers were cheered on by a sea of spectators as they battled the waves and each other in a true test of endurance.

But it wasn't just about the swimming. The Kieser Great Australia Day Swim was a true celebration of community spirit. Over 75 Rotarians and their partners and families were on hand to help, and the event was supported by a host of sponsors, including Multisport Australia, Medical Edge and Kieser. Bayside Council also lent their support, providing crucial assistance with cleaning the beach and access to the car park.

Of course, the real winners of the day were the Rotary charities. The event raised $50,000 for important causes, including the Brighton Lifesaving Club and the BayCISS Education Support program. This program provides much-needed support to students from disadvantaged families in the Bayside area, helping to ensure that every child has access to the education they deserve.

The Kieser Great Australia Day Swim was also a chance to showcase the beauty of Brighton Beach and the incredible efforts of the Brighton Lifesaving Club. The Club provided the course layout, water safety, 9 IRB rescue boats, 15 rescue boards, and 70 lifesavers, ensuring that every swimmer was safe and supported throughout the event. The Royal Brighton Yacht Club also played a vital role, closing their marina and providing access to their yard and beach rinse-down shower.

As the event drew to a close, swimmers and spectators alike could be proud of what they had achieved. The Kieser Great Australia Day Swim was not just a fantastic day out but a testament to the power of community spirit and the incredible things that can be achieved when people come together for a common cause. Here's to next year's event - we can't wait to see what the 14th annual Kieser Great Australia Day Swim has in store!
