RCB Bulletin Thursday 27 March 2025
Message from the President

At last week's meeting, Pres Donna gave a warm welcome to members, partners, friends, and guests and said that their presence and ongoing support truly made this club what it is. Donna said that Rotary thrives on connection, collaboration, and a shared passion for service, and it’s always a privilege to be in a room full of people who
embody those values.

Donna gave a very special thank you to our guest speaker, Tim Wilson who once again, delivered an insightful and engaging talk. She said that we always appreciate his time and insights. She presented him with a gift as a token of our appreciation.

Donna also acknowledged Paul Reid who is Chairman of the Bendigo Community Bank Highett and said that we are grateful for their wonderful support and for sharing their story with us last week and pointed out the important role they play in supporting our community. She also acknowledged Director Isabelle. Thank you all!

She gave a special shoutout to PP Cameron (Robert) Ward for chairing the meeting so smoothly. She said he made it look easy, but we know the truth! Also Sergeant Julie Avery who kept us all in line (or at least tried to). Donna appreciated her efforts. And of course, last but certainly not least, Donna thanked our incredible service team, David Finney and Anne Holland and said without them, we’d all be lost, hungry, and possibly still trying to find the agenda!

Donna Wright, President 2024/25

St Leonard’s College Interact Club News

The sun was shining and there was a buzz of activity on Saturday at the St Leonard’s College Community Day Fair. The Interact Club (which is the Middle School Social Action Club) were out in force flying the flag for young people making a difference and raising profile:awareness of how they’re looking to make an impact this year.

St Leonard’s College Interact Club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Brighton is mentored by Jo Kwok OAM, Director of Youth Services
The Rotary marquees looked fabulous amongst the other tents, while the students undertook their first foray into fundraising for their upcoming FORaMEAL packing day. FORaMEAL is a Rotary Club of Canterbury initiative which provides nutritious meals to disaster relief areas for free. Each pack can feed a family of four simply
by adding boiling water.
Last year’s Interactors had packed 15,050 packs which were sent to a range of countries (Asia Pacific, Africa and Europe) and this year they are looking to beat that record.
We will be seeking volunteers to get involved in volunteering for the FORaMEAL packing day later this year. Please let Jo know if you would like more information or would like to get involved with this or other Youth & Vocational Services projects.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the formal appointment of Claire Davison as District Governor for Rotary District 9800 in 2027-2028. Claire’s passion for service, strategic mindset, and dedication to making a lasting impact - both locally and globally - make her an outstanding choice for this role.
A dedicated Rotarian, Claire currently serves as President of the Rotary Club of Richmond and is an active member of our District Board, where she is leading the development of strategies and techniques to measure Rotary’s impact through our beneficiaries. Her work in this space is helping us better understand and communicate the real difference Rotary makes in people’s lives.
Beyond Rotary, Claire is a senior academic and a respected leader in higher education. As Associate Dean in Business Analysis and Technical Management at Torrens Global Education, she has shaped the future of business information systems, business analytics, accounting, and the economics of sustainability. With a deep commitment to education, diversity in STEM, and inter-cultural collaboration, Claire embodies the values of Rotary in every aspect of her work. Her leadership, insight, and ability to drive meaningful change will no doubt strengthen our District as we continue to grow and evolve.
Please join me in congratulating Claire on this well-earned appointment. I have no doubt that under her leadership, the Magic of Rotary will continue to inspire and create lasting change.
