President's Message

Dear Club Members,

Our wonderful President Arthur Hubbard is away at the Bendigo Conference so he has left this week's message in my hands. I'm sure Arthur would be very disappointed with Carlton's narrow loss on Saturday as I was and I attended the game. Oh well, enough said about that.

Pres Arthur spoke about the Past President's Dinner which he attended at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club last week which he said was a lovely evening of fellowship. PP David Grodski was the Chairman for the evening and good time was had by all. See highlights below.

Last week we had two Rotarian guests from Papua New Guinea in Ishmael and Cornelius who were over in Melbourne to attend the Conference in Bendigo. They were made welcome by President Arthur. We also had an update from exchange student Mariah who said she went to Seymour and encountered kangaroos for the first time and she loved it. She is enjoying life in Melbourne and is very happy to be here.

Our speaker last week was Mike Zervos who is the CEO of Courage to Care and he spoke about hate speech and Upstanders and Bystanders. B'nai B'rith Courage to Care (Vic) Inc is a global Jewish service organisation whose mission is to create a generation of Upstanders by informing and educating Australians about the dangers of prejudice, racism, discrimination and bullying. It was a very interesting talk and included many questions from attendees. President Arthur presented Mike with a gift in appreciation of his excellent talk.
