Last week’s meeting marked our first at the Hampton RSL, and while there are a few details to refine - such as seating arrangements and meal portions - the overall feedback from members has been quite positive. The RSL has been incredibly accommodating, especially given that we initially had 25 members booked for meals, yet 45 attended. That was no small feat for the venue to manage,
and it’s a reminder of how essential it is for everyone
to book ahead for meetings.
Our guest speaker, Judge Jim Duggan delivered an engaging and highly informative talk, which was appreciated by all in attendance.
Reflecting on the past, I truly believe our club is at a pivotal moment. The fellowship at our meetings has noticeably strengthened, with a real sense of energy in the room. It’s wonderful to see more members attending and the mix of new faces alongside our longstanding members is creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead - be good, be kind, and stay safe. We’re in this together, and the best is yet to come.
Rotary Club of Brighton Charitable Foundation, with the assistance of a Rotary District 9800 Foundation Grant, has donated a 24hr Public Access Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Tower outside the new Brighton Life Saving Club & Beach House Café buildings, visible from the bathing boxes and the beach.
This pilot AED installation has been a joint initiative of Rotary Club & Brighton and Brighton Life Saving Club and will be monitored and managed by BLSC members.
When the lifesavers are not on patrol in this highly populated beach precinct, the community project AED will be accessible to the public. Multiple sudden cardiac arrests occur in the Brighton Beach location each year and 24hr access to an AED could undeniably save lives.
On Saturday November 16, 2024 at 11:30am, Rotary Club of Brighton & Brighton Life Saving Club will launch the first 24hr Public Access Automated External Defibrillator.
A cordial invitation is extended to anyone who would like to attend the launch and learn more about this Rotary In Action initiative.
Tours of the new Life Saving pavilion (133 Esplanade, Brighton)
will be available on the day and Beach House café will be open
for refreshments.

Les Twentyman Foundation Lunch 10 October 2024
A very successful and well-attended Fundraising Lunch was held at the Sandringham Football Club, to benefit the
Les Twentyman Foundation.
Special guests included Members of the Foundation led by CEO Paul Burke and the Les Twentyman family. Paul had recently been a guest speaker at our Rotary Club of Brighton. Nick Johnstone, the President of the Sandringham Football Club, welcomed us.
Rotarians were well represented at the Lunch following a long and successful collaboration with Les over the years.
Apart from the great entertainment provided by Dougie Hawkins and Merv Hughes one of the highlights was the auction of Dougie Hawkins's football jumper which was sold for what could be considered a sizable sum.
On securing his prize the successful bidder immediately strode over to Mrs Cherie Twentyman and presented her with the jumper, much to the thunderous applause in the room. What a gesture!
The lunch, it appears, will now become an annual event.
