RCB Bulletin Thursday 2 November 2023

President’s weekly message

Last Thursday was great, a night that underscored the unique character our own Matt Nichols, a member who not only delivered an inspiring talk about 'Understanding the Retail Strip' but also extended his warmth by introducing his colleagues and friends to give them a glimpse of the world of Rotary.

As I write this, I find myself nervously anticipating Sunday. While the preparations for the Big Serve are finalised, there is a hint of apprehension for the first time the event has been run. I am wondering how it will all unfold; however, fingers are tightly crossed for what should be an afternoon of fun. Highlights will be in next week's Bulletin.

This Thursday’s meeting focusses on aspects of Rotary in Papua New Guinea, a country that has a place in my heart, even though I am aware of the many challenges it faces. We will learn a bit more about some of the work Rotary is undertaking, and I am certainly looking forward to hearing them. It’s always good to be reminded of the good Rotary achieves when it unites under the Rotary banner - making the world a better place, one act of service at a time.

Hope to see all of you at Rotary this Thursday 2 November.

President Arthur Hubbard

RYPEN October 2023

Congratulations and thank you to the RYPEN Committee, all the volunteers and participants for this weekend’s RYPEN camp! This iconic experience for 15-17 year olds brings together students from across Victoria (District 9800) to partake in team building and personal/leadership development  activities in a 3 day camp at Camp Getaway Axedale. A massive thank you to Andrew McAleer, General Manager Operations & our friends at Nuline Bus Charters for donating drivers to get our Bayside student participants to and from camp safely, and to Brighton Secondary College for providing us the use of the bus. The next RYPEN experience will be held in March 2024.
