RCB Bulletin Thursday 21 March 2024
President's Message

Dear Club Members,

Another excellent weekend which started early when Carlton delivered its supporters with a substantial win. And it only got better. However, before I go any further it would be remiss of me to mention the presentations by Jason Thatcher and Zali Reynolds at last week's meeting. They were both complimentary and excellent. Their commitment and actions to improving lives is really wonderful. (See meeting highlights below).

Back to the weekend - when I visited the St Leonard’s Fete on Saturday,
I immediately saw that our Rotary Interact Team were in full swing - great display and initiative, promoting Community Action and fund raising at the same time. They are so active - currently with 50 members in the junior school and growing rapidly. Well done to their mentor Jo Kwok. (See highlights below).

Sunday - the Classic car Show - what can I say except congratulations to all involved  - it really was an outstanding success. I am guessing it would have been an early night for many on Sunday - well deserved, a great day in every respect. (See Highlights below).

Our meeting next Thursday will go back in time - back to the early days of the establishment of Brighton - you will hear fascinating stories of the likes of the founders of Brighton - Henry Dendy, Jonathan Binns Were and Sir Thomas Bent.  The latter was a colourful and allegedly corrupt Victorian politician incumbent colloquially said of him at the time that he was ‘Bent by name, Bent by nature,’ The stories will be presented by members of the Brighton Historical Society and really is a great story.

See you at the only place to be on Thursday nights.

President Arthur Hubbard

St Leonard's College Community Day Fair Saturday 16 March
Beautiful day down at St Leonard’s College Community Day Fair on Saturday! Lots of activity at the Interact and Social Action marquees - with lots of visitors (including some familiar Brighton Rotarian faces) popping by to buy a raffle ticket, make a guess for the lolly jar or buy a Friendship bracelet. The 2024 St Leonard’s College Interact Club members were kept very busy promoting club and Rotary, planned social action activities and fundraising for a couple of projects they are looking to do later this year including another ForAMeal packing day.

Thanks to the Rotarians and friends of Rotary who visited and also that were instrumental behind the scenes to make the day a success! Story Jo Kwok
