There was no meeting last week and instead Members and partners enjoyed
a Fellowship Evening at Fazio's Restaurant in Hampton
on Monday 19 August. Apparently the food was delicious and there was
plenty of it. 38 attended which was good result. Sam Fazio appeared now and again to greet and welcome the Club Members and Partners. Well done Wendy Davis for organising the night and thanks for the photos.
The Mobile Phone Re-Cycling Campaign
The St Leonards Interact Club is collecting and re-cycling used mobile phones, and has requested our Club’s support.
Phones in working order will be wiped, updated and distributed
to BayCISS clients. The others will be re-cycled as scrap, with the proceeds donated to the Melbourne Zoo for animal conservation.
Please include power adaptors and remove data and password protection from working phones, or advise their Password.
Members able to assist can leave donated phones at the Front Desk
at our next Club Meeting on 5 September.

The Rotary Club of Brighton recently supported a number of high school students to compete in the Rotary District 9800 Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) in May this year. Two of the students, Nicholas Michele and Kenneth Yeung from Brighton Grammar were the event’s winning debating team. Over the weekend 17 - 18 August 2024, the boys travelled to Canberra to represent our District in the Rotary’s 25th National MUNA at the historic House of Representatives Chamber in Canberra’s Old Parliament House (now the Museum of Australian Democracy - MoAD). The Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise hosted, welcoming 44 delegates from 15 different schools, supported by fellow Rotarians, school counsellors, and families and friends. MoAD was filled with youthful voices debating United Nations (UN) Resolutions with fervour, conviction and with passion.
MoAD provided the perfect venue for debating the UN resolutions - a venue that was the home of our democracy from its opening almost a century ago on 9 May 1927, until the opening of our “new” Parliament House on 9 May 1988. Those who participated in MUNA 2024 came from far and wide from schools in NSW, ACT and VIC and spoke knowledgably and authoritatively on behalf of the country they represented.
Congratulations to the boys who reportedly had an amazing time and did very well to come fourth by a point, and by all accounts debated impressively. Guest Speaker at MUNA 2024 Lorraine Finlay Australian Human Rights Commissioner presented an excellent speech

As the result of a successful End Polio Fundraising walk last year with people and pets, Rotary Passport Melbourne has been asked to launch
End Polio month for D9800.
I am excited to share that PAWS FOR POLIO will take place this year on Sunday 6 October at Elsternwick Park. Participants can choose a short course around the dog park or begin their End Polio Month walk by a 5 or 10 km walk. Humans and 4 pawed walkers have plenty of choice.
We will be joined by Rotary Club of Balwyn North
who will be in charge of the BBQ/Sausages.
