Our Judge and Jury session was really enjoyed by the small number of Rotarians who attended last Thursday. Our thanks go to Phil Rowell for the evening. Also thanks to PP Julie Avery who presented an interesting Q&A.
We had the pleasure or meeting our new Exchange Student Mariah Iporto who joins us from Brazil. Mariah has been attending Brighton Secondary School and enjoying the experience and she is the younger sister of former exchange student Marcella. Please join me in making her feel really welcome.
Congratulations to PP Julie Avery and John Schmoll who are being appointed to assist manage the Club’s Charitable Trust. This is one of the Club’s gems, so it’s important to have members who are the calibre of Julie and John join with the current members, namely John McKell, Geoff Cunningham, Geoff Shaw, PP Ian Stacy and Paul Laband.
On the not so good news, I received the resignation of PP Chris Tuck during the week. A copy of his letter follows:
Dear President Arthur,
When I joined the Rotary Club of Brighton in 1995 I never would have imagined the high level of fun, fellowship, friendship, camaraderie and sense of achievement that I was about to enjoy within a group of great people, nor the longevity of that enjoyment.
I was lucky when I joined the club that existing members encouraged me to get involved in both Fellowship and Fundraising. In short time I understood it was the convergence between these two service streams that gave Rotary it’s strength and built the significant character that was the Rotary Club of Brighton.
Since I have retired I have never been busier and so with the club in good hands with you, Narina and Colleen it is with some sadness I am writing to advise you of my resignation. My aspirations for the future include the vain hope of reducing my golf handicap, improving my cooking skills and travel, especially a trip to Gloucester and the Cotswolds where Katherine and I met, followed by Spain and Portugal where a very special Brazilian exchange student ex Darwin now lives.
Many thanks to the members of the Rotary Club of Brighton for their great support over the years, in particular, Max Martin, Alex Spear, Alan Pinkus, Roger Fairlam, Cameron Ward and my Board of 2009/10 when I was President. I fondly remember Michael Rundle who as Director of Meetings did such a great job.
My wish is that both Katherine and I can maintain some connection with the club and I shall definitely read the Bulletin with great interest. I am also looking forward to assisting Des Thomas to again serve sausages at the swim and to attending the opening night of the Art Show.
All the very best to you and all members of the Rotary Club of Brighton and thanks for all those happy memories.
Kind Regards
Chris Tuck
