Model United Nations Assembly 24 & 25 May
And another RCB sponsored team are heading to Canberra after winning Best Team at the District Comp!
Congratulations to Thaya and Jennifer
from Brighton Secondary College!
On the 24th and 25th of May 2025, the Rotary Club of Brighton supported student teams from Brighton Grammar and Brighton Secondary College to compete in the Rotary District 9800 Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA).
MUNA is an annual competition held all around Australia, and the best teams in each district are sent to Canberra to compete in the Nationals! Four of Brighton Secondary College’s most politically engaged students – Jennifer M, Zoe A, Jennifer M (Debating Captain) and Thaya K proudly represented their school. They were split into 2 teams and each represented a member state in the real United Nations to debate resolutions and create diplomatic agreements in response to real world issues. They competed among 20 national teams from 15 different schools across the district. Participants in MUNA are judged not only on how well they can represent their country in diplomacy and engagement with the resolutions, but also in how well their costumes match the culture of their assigned country.
We are pleased to say that all teams engaged excellently in the diplomacy of making deals and creating alliances between countries of similar interests – Congratulations to all who participated! The Brighton Secondary College teams ended up taking home the 2nd best costume, 2nd best individual speaker, AND most importantly: 2 members of the debating team, Thaya K and Jennifer M who represented China, have taken home the overall Best Team win and will be representing Brighton Secondary College in the National Competition in Canberra in August 2025! Congratulations also to Nick) from Brighton Grammar who won Best Individual Speaker (who was part of the team representing Saudi Arabia).

Rotary Youth Sailing Challenge.
Plus thank you letter from Taya.
Earlier this year in the April School holidays, the Rotary Club of Brighton supported 15 year old Taya (pictured bottom right), a local Baysider to take part in the Rotary Youth Sailing Challenge. Joining other 15-17 year olds from around Victoria, they all boarded the Tall Ship Enterprize for this unique life 4 day voyage around Port Phillip Bay. Sailing aboard a sail training vessel on this training voyage is a dynamic personal development experience during which lifelong skills are learnt through challenge and adventure. It is an intensive work and social experience, where trainees are presented with the challenge of acquiring skills needed to operate a Tall Ship, safely,
at sea. Meeting these challenges conveys a sense of achievement and self-worth for all involved, and Taya is extremely grateful for
the experience.
The Rotary Youth Sailing Challenge will be doing their next voyages in the September 2025 school holidays and January 2026. This experience is open to 15-17 year olds. If interested or wanting more information, please contact youth@brightonrotary.com.au
