President’s weekly message

By the time you have read this, our Club will have been in existence for 50 years, a remarkable milestone in its journey. Established in 1973 by a group of passionate individuals committed to making a difference in our Community, the Rotary Club of Brighton became one of the leading Clubs in Australia and at one time was the largest suburban Club in Australia. Over the past five decades, the club has consistently lived up to its motto, "Service Above Self," by undertaking numerous community initiatives, fostering goodwill, and building lasting friendships.

As the club approaches its golden anniversary, we should all take the time to reflect on the profound impact our Club has had on our community. From supporting initiatives such as assisting local schools with youth and educational programs and scholarships to organiSing health initiatives, and our overseas projects, our Club has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals. We have been part of Rotary’s push to eradicating polio globally through the Rotary International campaign, showcasing our unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes.

The 50th birthday celebration next Sunday promises to be a great affair, where past and present members will come together to reminisce about our Club’s accomplishments, rekindle old friendships, and recommit ourselves to serving our community for the next 50 years and beyond.

Our 50th birthday celebration is not just a reflection of our rich history but also a testament to its enduring values and vision.

I am acutely aware our Club now faces the challenge of embarking on the next 50 years, it will not be easy at times, however we need to continue to be a source of inspiration and change for generations to come. We need to remain steadfast in our mission to make the world a better place, one community project at a time. With the support of dedicated members, we do need to evolve and gro. However I know we can succeed.

Happy 50th Birthday, Rotary Club of Brighton

President Arthur Hubbard

Note: We also had an interesting talk last week from guest speaker Michael McGirr.
