RCB Bulletin Thursday 22 August 2024
At last week's meeting we continued the upward trend with 32 plus attending which was pleasing to see. We had a very good speaker in Gabriel Ireland of RT Edgar Real Estate, a cheque presentation to BayCISS Vice President Janet Matheson and a cheeky Sergeant Session from PP Julie Avery exracting much needed coins for the fellowship coffers. We also had a bottle of wine auctioned by Gabriel from his family's winery which PP David Grodski purchased for $250 with all proceeds going to the Club.

It was also good to see Members we hadn't seen for a while which included Will Maxted, PP David Grodski, John Schmoll, Val Zdzitowiecki, Tony Rouse, Ian Hall and even PP Keith Cameron who was resplendent in a yellow jacket and purple pants - definitely a standout. PP Alan Pinkus also created a highlight by asking speaker Gabriel why estate agents seem to always wear tight stove pipe pants. He thought it would be difficult to get them off in a hurry if necessary. Certainly a very funny moment amongst the many serious property questions being asked.

Our speaker Gabriel Ireland is the Officer in Effective Control and Director of premium real estate agency, R T Edgar. He is not just a real estate agent and his background includes property development and building of some of Melbourne’s most expensive homes. So, he is not just your run of the mill real estate agent, he is much more than that and, in a sense, he also knows real estate from the ground up. Nor is his colleague run of the mill, our very own Rotarian Will Maxted. Gabriel grew up in Hawthorn and attended nearby Xavier College but saw the light 15 years ago and moved Bayside. No doubt a women had something to do with that. He lives here in Brighton and after all that time we can consider him to be one of us. He has 3 children with the two older ones attending Brighton Grammar and Firbank. Despite his busy schedule Gabriel finds time to be an enthusiastic Lions supporter and in summer an active member of the Portsea Surf Life Saving Club.
Gabriel in his talk spilt the beans on the Bayside property market, how to successfully transition from one property ownership to another when moving house and what was of particular interest to some our Rotarians, how to comfortably downsize and embrace apartment living. Gabriel was given a bottle of wine in thanks for his very interesting talk.

All in all a very good meeting with a good turn up and great service
and food from the caterers. I look forward to seeing everyone at Fazio's.
