RCB Bulletin Thursday 10 October 2024

President's Message

It was fantastic to see such a great turnout on Thursday, and our DG Michael Lapina truly made it worthwhile. His engaging and inspiring talk reminded us all of the exciting changes happening within Rotary, yet it’s essential that we continue to honour the legacy and dedication of our long-standing members. Rotarians like PP Allan Pinkus and PP Des Thomas, who celebrate 50 remarkable years this year, are the foundation upon which we build. They are club assets who embody the spirit and values that have brought Rotary to where it is today.

I was also thrilled to announce the corporate sponsorship from Bendigo Bank, which will be instrumental in enabling RCB to further support our communities and expand the meaningful work we do. This partnership is a testament to the trust and value others see in the impact we continue to make. Thank you
PP Norm Thomas for your work on landing this sponsorship.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to share that, starting in November, our regular monthly meetings will take place at Hampton RSL. This is a welcomed change of venue, and I want to acknowledge the Brighton Beach Bowls Club for their incredible support thus far. A special thank you to David Finney for his tireless efforts in securing a venue that better suits our growing needs.

Pat Kearns has advised that we have 12 confirmed potential new members attending our New Members Event next Thursday. A lot of effort has gone into preparing for this event, and I, along with other members, am looking forward to showcasing RCB. Be sure to keep an eye out for new faces at our regular meetings - we’re growing!

In closing, please keep an eye out for the upcoming events mentioned below. Be good, be kind and stay safe

Looking for volunteers for:

1. The annual Bayside Family Christmas Event is booked in for Monday
9 December at Hampton RSL. The Rotary Club of Brighton in conjunction with Hampton RSL and Hampton Rotary, with the support of Bayside Police and Bayside Council will look to host a Bayside Family Christmas event again in 2024 for socioeconomically disadvantaged clients of Team Sports4All, BayCISS and Family Life. Vulnerable families with pre- and school aged kids (Under 16 years old) will be invited to join in some fun with games followed by a traditional Christmas dinner and a visit from Santa with the objective of spreading some Christmas Cheer with social connection, engagement and to feel partof the community…seeking volunteers to support the planning and/or on the day*.

2. St Leonard’s College Interact Club will be holding a FORaMEAL packing day on campus Tuesday 12 November as their International project. In conjunction with the Rotary Club of Canterbury, FORaMEAL is an initiative to help provide emergency relief meals for those impacted by natural disasters. Each year over 250,000 meals are provided free of charge to vulnerable individuals and families across the Asia Pacific region in times of disaster. This is where the students will have hands-on experience working collaboratively
to pack FORaMEAL packs and Rotary volunteers are required
to help with supervision.

If you’re interested in volunteering for either of these events or want to know more about Brighton Rotary’s Youth Services please
