RCB Bulletin Thursday 14 March 2024
President's Message

Dear Club Members,

What a weekend kick-off, right? I will admit, I switched channels in disgust during that first quarter of the Carlton versus Brisbane match, but lo and behold, the Blues pulled through! Oh, ye of little faith!! A victorious start to the long weekend – many happy returns - go Blues.

Now, let's rewind to last Thursday's gathering where we were fortunate to host our own Anne Holland together with the team from Community First Responders - Gwyn Nichols & Leon Landau. Their talk on handling sudden cardiac arrests was eye-opening. From distinguishing between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack to hands-on defibrillator demos, it was a crash course in lifesaving skills. Huge thanks to Anne, Gwyn, and Leon for the invaluable session. Bonus points: Gwyn happens to be the daughter of our member Matt Nichols, making the event even more special.

Hold onto your hats, folks, because this week is shaping up to be a whirlwind! First up, it’s the St Leonard's fete on Saturday 16 March, where Jo Kwok will be lending a hand to our Interact Club. Swing by, say hi to Jo and the students, and support her efforts.

Then, mark your calendars for Sunday's Brighton Classic Car Show on 17 March. The team has been burning the midnight oil to ensure everything is meticulously planned for the day.  All we have to do is cross all available appendages for clear skies! – and off course turn up for your rostered duties.
Make sure keep an eye out for the bright faces of the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School students -  Year 7 and 8 students who hail from remote and regional communities mainly in the NT and Victoria. You can imagine the challenges these young students have when they first make the journey to Melbourne – a huge change for them, so let’s make them feel really welcome.

And finally, don’t forget our meeting on Thursday 14 March lineup! We have got double the experience with Zali Reynolds sharing insights on blending philanthropy with profit in business, followed by Jason Thatcher's update on his highly successful Global Village Housing Cambodia project.

Can't wait to catch up with everyone.

President Arthur Hubbard
