Hello Colleen and the Members of the Rotary Club of Brighton,
I trust you are doing well. Welcome to May and I am excited to share with you about my last month of being a university student. It is such a beautiful and long journey that I have with CRST. So today, I would love to share with you about my time joining Family Support, NSS mission, and Moving to PP.
This month, I joined with FS to deliver food supplies for families in Bakong District and I was so excited to visit this family again as well as help the family support team to do the assessment for reviewing the family if we need to increase or lower some budget for each family depending on the condition. It was a very nice day where we left the office at 7AM and bought groceries, rice fruit, dry fish and some of the family's needs in the samaki market. After that, we went directly to the family house and we spent around 30 to 40 minute to get there and we did our assessment which pointed out some of the questions to each family to collect the information and observe all the living conditions for consideration. On that day, I visited four families with the team and it was a pretty incredible time for me. After visiting and interviewing those four families, we discussed having lunch. However, it was a bit late for us to come and have lunch at Siem Reap city, so we considered having khmer noodle at Bakong district because in those areas we hardly see people selling rice and food and if there was only with the high price around Bakong Temple. Anyways, we decided to and it never upset us which was really affordable and delicious as well. I had a good time with everyone who came together and I was happy because I could be a small part to help their children and grandchildren to continue studying and support the elderly.
Moreover, in the late of April I got the chance to join with New Students Selection for advertising and distributing the application for students at Samrong high school. I am thrilled to join the recruitment this year as well to select more potential and bright students who are eager to learn and continue their education, unfortunately I could not because I will finish my university before the process ends. So, I could only provide applications and collect application days. First of all, we met with the school principal and the teachers there and informed them where we came from and what our purpose was on that day. They gave a warm welcome to us and appreciate that we deliver great opportunities for their students. So, the school principal arranges and gathers all students to meet together at the flag, so we can interpret the information about our scholarship. At the same time, Lun was a student who came from that school and she came to inspire everyone there and encourage them to apply for this wonderful scholarship to change their life. Lita and I stayed behind and took some of the photos.
After finishing up, we informed them where we stand by that they can go and get the information. Teachers arranged the place for us to sit in the school, however, we discussed and decided to have a place outside so students could easily find us. When everything was ready, students started coming to get the application and we got the chance to tell them of the criteria for applying and what we offer them if they pass the scholarship. I got the chance to inspire them about how education is changing life and the way we think. Lita, Lun and I spent time talking to many students about how to apply and the process of our scholarship to them. They were so excited to hear about the opportunities that we offer and they were so grateful that we clarified with them what they have concerns. Lastly, we left the school at 4PM and I was so happy to see many students come to get the application and thanks to all the teachers there that welcomed us so well
Another thing, I would love to share with you a little bit about my moving to PP. This is my last term and I will finish the term on 24th of May. So, I will move to Phnom Penh in the early of June. Firstly, I will check with senior students to ask them to stay until I receive the job offer. Until now, I had applied to around ten to fifteen of the NGOs and schools and I got some calls for an interview, so Let's see after the interview. I actually got an offer from one NGOs in Siem Reap in March with a better salary too but I rejected because at that time I had not graduated yet. And now, what I am going to do next is to apply with other positions more and I will seek more advice from my friends and my seniors on some tips as well as watching some of the sharing videos from YouTube.
Last but not least, I am deeply appreciating all of the Rotary Club of Brighton for your kind support over the four years of my academic journey. The kindness and beautiful heart of your members are a big that had changed a girl from remote areas who did not expect to get the chance to graduate from a university but and now I am about to graduate from a Panhasastra University of Cambodia where a highest cost and best university in Siem Reap city and I could not descript how much I appreciate for a long journey and investment you put toward my education and dreams. So, I have only the word A BIG THANKS and may all the kindness of you bring success, joy, and happiness to you and your family and people around you.
