Rotarians in Warrnambool supporting
the Western Victoria Drought Relief

Members of the Rotary Club of Brighton were in Warrnambool supporting the Western Victoria Drought Relief on the 7th November. Last Rotary year, our club funded the provision of 15 pallets of goods sourced from the Rotary Donations in Kind West Footscray store for families affected by the extended drought impacting Western Victoria. The goods include household goods and clothing and were selected in response to the requested items identified by the families. Many families cannot afford Christmas presents for their children, and we are also providing children’s gifts.
Thanks to: @SargentsTransport who collected the 15 pallets from Donations in Kind in West Footscray, and delivered them without charge to
Bega Cheese in Koriot who stored the 15 pallets whilst the CountryFireAuthority CFA relocated a fire truck to provide space
to store the goods .
The 6C’s then sorted the pallets into 5 groups ready for packing into 10 trailers that the Rotary Club of Central Warrnambool provided, supported by members of the Rotary Club of Brighton ready to be delivered to the 5 halls organised and manned by the local branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA).
The CWA & local Rotary Clubs also communicated to their local communities organised the distribution of these goods to needy families in their local communities organised the distribution of these goods to needy families in their local communities inviting them to come along and select items that will help them.

Message from PP Michael Jess
"Unfortunately I have to inform you that Renate has left us last Wednesday morning after weeks bravely fighting cancer with confidence to overcome these problems through chemo-therapy. Her fight against death was short and helped to avoid further times of great pain and uncertainty.
Please, do not contact us now as we are going through tough times and get accustomed to emptiness and sadness.
But remember the happy hours we spent together on many occasions."
Best regards PP Michael Jess

Speaker Shannon Thompson

Shannon who is the General Manager of Calvary Kooyong, gave an excellent presentation on the history of Bethlehem Hospital to today's Calvary Health Care Bethlehem which is a publicly funded health service that has been proudly serving the needs of Glen Eira and surrounding communities for over 80 years. In early 2023 Calvary Bethlehem recommenced operations at our original site at 476 Kooyong Road, Caulfield South, relocating from our temporary facilities at Parkdale to our new landmark integrated health precinct, Calvary Kooyong.

The new health precinct brings together Calvary Bethlehem’s existing specialist health services, premium retirement living in the Hyson Apartments, contemporary residential care in the Huntly Suites, Calvary’s in-home care, GP services and other health care. Calvary Bethlehem continues to be recognised as a leader in its areas of expertise; as a Statewide provider for those with Progressive Neurological Disease (such as Motor Neurone Disease and Huntingtons’ Disease) and as a Specialist Palliative Care Service.

Sergeant's Session
Presented by Sgt Arthur Hubbard
1. PP Julie & Keiran: Congratulations on selling 40% of their travel business to Helloworld - Sarg suggested they put in a share of the profits in the fines box;
2. PP Julie & Keiran: Another fine. They must stay in the business for at least 3 years so they are still gainfully employed;
3. Keiran: Known as a professional wine connoisseur and an expert in all things Cabernet Sauvignon, went to a friend's house who produced a bottle of red for Keiran to taste. He thought it was the best red he had ever tasted. He took a photo to remind him if he needed something good for a special occasion. He googled it and found out it was an $8 bottle of Aldi's wine;
4. Travellers to Japan: There are a number of reported complaints by Japanese residents about tourist behaviors - chasing Gieshas down the street, graffitiing walls and carving initials on ancient temples etc. Sarg fined anyone going to Japan this year;
5. David Finney - Back to the Future: Resident car lover David was thinking of buying a DeLorean - he decided not to buy it as he would only drive it from time to time;

9. Comedy Night: All those who didn't attend this wonderful event fined;
10. PP Bill Howley: Wonderful to see him there down all the way from Queensland. On past visits he didn't have coin to pay his fines. So another $2 plus interest and late fees;
11. Roger Fairlam: Wife Christine had graft on her leg and has to lie flat
for some time. Roger doing housework and cooking. He also spilled beer
on Pat Kearns pants during the meeting;
