Youth Programs - Seeking Volunteers
Each year the Rotary Club of Brighton, support a number of young people to undertake personal and leadership opportunities, take on new challenges, and compete in a range of opportunities such as the Rotary Youth Sailing Challenge, RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment), Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA), National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).
We have a number of local initiatives that our Club proudly leads such as Bayspeak (Public speaking competition), Brighton Secondary College Mock interview and the Science and Engineering Challenge. We will be seeking volunteers to help up with delivery of these initiatives. Volunteers will require a current Working With Children Check (Working with Children Check | vic.gov.au) which can be applied for free). No prior experience is required and full training will be provided.
Brighton Secondary College – Mock interviews
It's that time of year when we conduct practice job interviews at Brighton Secondary College. This helps Year 10 students with job readiness and this preparation supported them to have confidence to more effectively apply for jobs. Our volunteers help them by reviewing their resume, and doing a mock interview (training is provided). There are 130+ students to be interviewed and this year’s dates are Thursday 21st and Thursday 28th May from 9am -12.35pm each day. This is a really rewarding experience you can be involved in at one of our local public high schools - if you are able to assist, and have a current WWCC, please email youth@brightonrotary.com.au.
Light refreshments will be provided on the interview days.
Science and Engineering Challenge
This is a nationally run program which is aimed to inspire Year 9 & 10 students to consider STEM opportunities. Each fun filled event day has 8 schools competing in hands on challenges. Volunteers are required to supervise activities, training is provided and a light lunch & morning tea is provided. If you are able to assist, and have a current WWCC, pleas email youth@brightonrotary.com.au. The Rotary Club of Brighton in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Brighton North and Balwyn will be supporting this exciting initiative and the project is being delivered with the support of a Rotary Foundation District Grant.
