RCB Bulletin 30 September 2025

Pres Colleen d'Offay welcomed everyone to the meeting and said that
she would normally welcome our guest speaker, but he had fallen foul of COVID. She said that fortunately our fabulous Chairman Pat Kearns, had been working on a very entertaining evening with a Footy Quiz with great prizes and more. Colleen then welcomed our guests: Angie Biggin, Lesley Kearns, Christine Nicholson and Merve Boztepe,
who is a prospective member.
We also welcomed back Di Allan who has rejoined the Club.

Pres Colleen also made a special mention of Geoff Cunningham who was at the meeting having recovered from 8 weeks in hospital. She said it was wonderful to see him there and welcomed him back. She also spoke about John McKell's wife, Chris who has been in hospital for the past 3 weeks.  John advised her he was hoping to have her home this week.

Pres Colleen also made mention of the big Bayside Comedy Extravaganza evening coming up on Wednesday 12 November and encouraged us to book for this great event.
See details below for booking.
Also don't forget to book for the social event at the Naked Racer Museum
on Thursday 9 October. See details below.

Apologies were from:

They have also offered to billet anyone who would like to stay over.

Please contact Stuart McIntyre for further details and advise if you would like to participate.

52nd Anniversary of Rotary Club of Brighton's founding

Pres Colleen also pointed out that last Wednesday, September 24, was the 52nd Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Brighton being officially chartered in 1973. She received an email from Suren Poruri, from the Rotary District 3150 in India, congratulating the club, and they asked me to convey their warm wishes to the club members.

They presented Colleen with some interesting facts: Rotary Clubs across the world execute service projects worth 2 billion dollars every year, and Rotarians give 25 million volunteer hours to their communities across the world every day.

The charter members auspiced by Os Bayliss in May 1973 included the following: PP John Akhurst, Bruce Cowie, George Cunningham,
PP Merv Deutsher, Raoul Fawke, Hartley Gibson, Deryck Graham,
Tony Hillman, PP Jack Joel OAM, Peter Johns, PP Mayer Page, Doug Pearson, Norm Reid, Ian Robinson, PP Ian Stevenson, PP Richard Thurston, Harry Trinick, PP Robert Tucker, Ted Wall-Smith and PP Robert Ward OAM. Sadly only 2 are with us today -
PP Rob Tucker and PP Peter Johns.

These 23 pioneers dared to dream boldly, led with courage, and laid the foundation for what would flourish into an extraordinary Rotary Club that we have the privilege of being a member of.

RCB Finals Footy Tipping Comp 2025
and Grand Final Competition

The Ladder

A message from Alan Jarrott
Hello Tippers!
Sadly the big dance is done.
Thank you to everyone for their enthusiasm for our competitions
throughout the season.
This finals series was one of our biggest in tipping numbers.

Although I went resourcing Grand Final sustenance while he was on and did not pursue a replay, I hear there was also a big divergence re YES or NO for Snoopy performance. In a measure of my reaction to the AFL Snoop Dogg decision, I did make sure I saw the Footballers Sprint.

FINALS COMP: $270 (was $200 before inclusion of Lone - 8-9 Jackpot)
GRAND FINAL: $160 (was $100 before inclusion of Lone - 8-9 Jackpot)

Congratulations to Halftime Heroes Matt for his audacious (also analysed by Matt as ladder desperation) tip of Brisbane by 50 points that captured the Grand Final Competition and the Finals.

As Jan’s attached ladder shows, there was wide divergence amongst us re the outcome.
Sadly for me, I did not choose my old footy number as the margin.

Those who also believed big time in the Lions included:
julieaveryJulie A - 39 pts
williamhowleyWilliam H - 35 pts
Peter RankinPeter R - Lions 30pts
sgc1Susan C - 26 pts
CrossleyBruce C - 25 pts
Deelite3Dee A - 23 pts
paulfnPaul N - 20 pts
Certainly looked unlikely for those visionaries at half-time
when the scores were level.

Pat and I hope you will join us again next season  (only a few months away Pat). Despite his Essendon dilemmas Pat is passionate about our Tipping Comp and cannot wait for March 2026 to come around.
Thank you to all who have emailed comments during the year,
it is greatly appreciated.

In honour of The Two Ronnies:
"It’s goodnight from me. And it’s goodnight from him."

Regards Alan Jarrott

Meeting Overview
Pres Colleen said that PP Pat Kearns, under difficult circumstances with a very short time frame, pulled off a great meeting with a Footy Trivia Competition assisted by Roger Fairlam, PP Ian Stacy's Sergeant Session and presented the results of the Footy tipping Comp. Colleen understands, that based on the winner (Lesley Kearns), that there has been a request for a review. Overall a fun night had by all.

Wayne Styles 80th Birthday Party

A group of Wayne's family including his brother Rex, friends and some Rotarians and partners gathered at The Baths to celebrate Wayne's 80th Birthday on Sunday 21 September. Attendees were entertained by the 3 Tenors and wined and dined by the excellent Baths staff. A lovely celebration for Wayne.
